Are used kitchen units an option?

It is possible to purchase used kitchen units. In fact, because they are quite difficult to sell, used units can often be bought for a very reasonable price. However, there are some drawbacks to consider.

  1. How are you going to fit the units? When you purchase new kitchen units the cost of fitting is often part of the overall price. Unless you are capable of fitting the used units yourself, you are going to have to line up a tradesman to fit the kitchen for you. This usually isn’t a problem, but it is an additional thing to organise.
  2. How are you going to transport and store the units? Used kitchen units are usually removed pretty much intact. If they were once flat-packed, chances are, they won’t be any longer. This is good from a point of view of fitting the kitchen, but poses problems for transporting and storage. You must sort out how you are going to get the units to your kitchen, and how and where you are going to store them until it is time to fit them.
  3. How long are you able to wait for the perfect used units to become available. If the units are going to form part of a entire kitchen refurb, how long can you keep waiting for the ideal used items to appear. Projects are dependent upon the materials being in place at the right time. Delays end up costing money. And it is easier to avoid delays if items are purchased new.
