Baby Walkers Cause Thousands of Childhood Injuries Every Year

Every year baby walkers cause thousands of injuries to babies. In response to this the Consumer Product Safety Commission pushed for the new baby walker standard. The new standard has a plethora of new safety features to radically cut down on the number of injuries sustained by infants. It’s hoped that the injuries will decrease from as high as 32,000 a year to less than 10,000 a year.

The newer safety standards consist of many features that will make the baby walker safer. Most prominent among them are brakes to stop the walker from rolling if one or more wheels leave the floor. Another prominent feature is the increased width to prevent the walker from exiting most rooms without adult assistance.  If babies are unable to go from room to room they will have a much less chance of toppling down the stairs – a primary cause of baby walker injuries.
