Be an Expert: How to Succeed in the Hospitality Industry

When you work with people on a day to day basis you’ll soon find that people need opinions and answers on a wide variety of topics. I work in the hotel industry and it might be different for other customer service skills related hospitality industries but I know that if I wasn’t an expert on my hotel and my area I would quickly find myself drowning in a sea of unanswerable questions.

There is no reason you can’t be an expert these days anyway. The internet allows you quick access to an infinite variety of information on almost any topic. If someone asks me what’s the best Japanese restaurant in Boston I can quickly look up reviews on Google and spit out an answer. If someone asks me what roads they should take to get to Nantucket from Providence, I can quickly plug in the addresses and print them a map. It’s easy to be an expert when you have a computer to use.
