Burning Juniper Wood
When people think about firewood, pine or fir generally pops into their mind. At least in my neck of the woods, that is the primary type available. Some limitations with pine and fir are burn times. These woods tend to burn fairly fast. This can be a problem if you rely on wood exclusively to heat your home. No one wants to wake up several times a night to load the wood stove.
Another option is Juniper. Juniper is classified as a soft wood so it’s easier to split than most hardwood. The advantages of Juniper are the long burn times. It also burns hotter than pine and fir. Those who have used Juniper, nearly always prefer it to. Juniper also makes great smoke chips and grill platters. Another advantage is that it’s cleaner. Pine and fir has messy bark. Juniper bark doesn’t flake off like other species which keeps the wood pile and your home cleaner.
