I can’t remember the exact time when I realized that I had acquired a love affair with shag area rugs. To the majority of people the idea of a shag rug gives them nightmares about terrible carpet replacements from the seventies when style didn’t exist. For me though the though of finding great examples of the worlds finest rugs fills me with pleasure. A good rug can add an extra degree of warmth, comfort and style to a room for little cost, what is there not to love?

I have to say though that I was lucky to spend many years of my life traveling around the globe to places where rugs are looked upon with an entirely different eye. This gave me the opportunity to find many pieces which are in a different class to the shag rugs that are sometime available in the US and Europe. Take a little time though to find some of the better manufacturers and you too may find that you can’t stop buying new rugs for your home.

If you are a parent you probably know that having kids is both a blessing and a curse. Part of the curse is that they are almost always better at making a mess than they are at cleaning it up. I guess it is a part of children’s nature to make a mess everywhere they go and as a parent that will require a lot of time to clean up after them.

If you are unfortunate and have installed light colored hard floors (wood or tiles) in your house and especially in the kids’ room you can’t even clean it up before it looks like a mess again. What you should consider is getting area rugs installed because even though it might not look quite as good you will quickly see that the room will appear a lot less dirty because it is now hiding in the rugs.

Karastan is a very famous brand of are rugs. They produced their first rug in 1928 and this signal the first time that a machine rug could be of the same quality as a rug made by hand. Karastan rugs have a reputation for their extreme durability. Evidence for this is when they conducted an experiment at the 1933 World’s Fair. Over 5 million people walked over a Karastan rug in the main foyer and then the company cleaned one side and left the other dirty. People were amazed that the side that had been cleaned restored the rug to make it look just like new. This shows just how durable these rugs are and how easy they can be restored to look like new after extreme abuse.
