Auto Insurance Myth #1

“I’ve never had or been involved in a car accident, so I don’t need automobile insurance.” For the most parts, car accidents are actually indeed accidents. No one is really trying to get themselves into a dangerous situation of two very heavy and deadly objects into a collision. However, it isn’t uncommon to see people go without getting into an accident their whole life.

Regardless, if you haven’t been into an automotive accident yet, the worst assumption to make is that you won’t get into an accident in the future. Car insurance is the best thing out on the road, because it can save your life in the case of a severe wreck. On top of that, almost every state requires that you must have some form of auto insurance, and consequences can be fierce. Drop by Boise ID Auto Insurance for some insurance tips on automotives.

Car insurance for returning students

For students returning home from college at the end of a semester is a great time to relax and forget your cares for a while, one thing that shouldn’t be forgotten if they are hoping to drive their parent’s car during the holiday is the insurance risk. In many cases parents will have removed their children off of the named drivers list on their insurance policy to save money, when the kids come back for the holidays a quick and cheap way of getting them insured to drive the car is by taking out single day car insurance, this is a cheap policy that you are able to set up quickly online without the hassle of having to contact your broker or hold on the end of a line while a customer service rep tries to figure out what you want

Young Drivers and Car Insurance

Young people have particular difficulty in getting inexpensive auto insurance.  You may have taken a new driver into your car insurance broker and found that the rates were so high for them that it almost seemed like they were being discriminated against.

The primary reason for this is less sinister and more based on cold, unfeeling math.  Young people are statistically more likely to be involved in a traffic collision than adults.  This is due in part to their inexperience, but also to the attitude that younger drivers tend to have, which results in more dangerous driving habits, higher speed, and less responsibility.

That is not to say that finding cheap car insurance for young drivers is impossible.  The truth is far from it.  Car insurance companies have all sorts of discounts available for young people who demonstrate responsible, careful driving and academic habits.

What Does Comprehensive Car Insurance Cover?

This is a question best answered by your agent, as each policy has different specific things that they cover, and different deductibles to go with it. However, you can generally count on it covering fire, flood and damage to your car if it is stolen. Some policies also cover things like damage from animals, hurricane/wind damage, or repairs to your car if it breaks down.

In certain areas the premium may be higher, and even extraordinarily high for high risk locations. For instance, if you live in a town where flooding occurs on a regular basis you’ll have to pay a much higher premium than say somewhere that only has a flooding incident once every ten years.

Most people don’t require comprehensive car insurance. The general liability that is required by the state is sufficient enough for most drivers. However, if you have a car that you have restored and has a lot of value, or just own an expensive or personally significant car, then you may want to consider comprehensive insurance. Ask your agent for premium details, types of coverage and deductibles.
