Patients, who suffer from TMJ pain, may also have to deal with a TMJ headache. A TMJ headache may be felt throughout the head area. This type of headache can also be considered as a tension type of headache; hence it may spread to you neck, shoulders and even your back. TMJ headaches can often be misdiagnosed, especially if your doctor is not familiar with TMJ problems. Sometimes, your headache may be mistaken for a migraine of a sinus problem.

In many cases, a TMJ headache can last for a couple of days up to a couple of months, which naturally leads to sleepless nights and fatigue. Therefore, this type of TMJ pain may cause you to have a poor work performance, and it may even affect your personal relationships.

Since your headache may not disappear on its own, it is important to consult a doctor to get your life back on track. Doctors have a variety of approaches to relieving your TMJ pain. Some doctors may prefer to simply prescribe you a pain reliever or an anti-inflammatory drug. Although, it is important to remember why you are having these headaches in the first place. They are called TMJ headaches because TMJ is the cause. So addressing your TMJ should be the doctors’ first priority.
