One of the most common ingredients in juicer recipes is the apple.  It is sweet, it is cheap, and most importantly, it is healthy for you.  Its naturally simple sweet taste makes it a common sweetener in most juicer recipes.  Best of all, they blend well with vegetables too and not just fruits.

Apples have a wide assortment of antioxidants and phytonutrients that make it great for the body, especially the heart.  They do not cost much at the grocery store, and you always have a large variety to choose from.  When shopping for apples, take note that non-organic apples are often exposed to many chemicals that remain in the apple peel.  You can peel the apple before juicing, but you will lose out on many nutrients.  In this case, you should buy organic apples.

These are two apple juicer recipes for you to try out:

Apple & Carrot Juice

  • 2 apples
  • 5-6 carrots

Apple Citrus Juice

  • 2 apples
  • 1 grapefruit
  • 1 orange
  • lemon juice (about 2 tbsp)

Ever sine I bought a Jack Lalanne juicer I have been a juicing convert. The health benefits of juicing are outstanding. It is possible to get your daily quota of vegetables and fruit in an easy, refreshing nutritious drink. However, I recently discovered the benefits of wheatgrass. The grass itself can be juiced and drank on its own and taken as a healthy shot or it can be mixed with fruit or vegetables to boost the health benefits.

Wheatgrass contains, weight for weight more protein than eggs or fish and, surprisingly, more iron than spinach. It contains many enzymes which help detox the body and neutralize the toxins found in food or on the metabolites of food absorbed from the gut. It also contains high quantities of chlorophyll which can also neutralize toxins and has been suggested to prevent cancer. Just one shot a day can boost your health.
