Serving wine in great wine glasses tells your guests you appreciate them. When you know something about wine glasses, you can select the proper glass for various wines.

A wine glass is has three main elements. The stem, the bowl that holds the wine  and the foot the glass stands on. The mouth of the wine glass is normally about the same diameter as the foot of the glasses. White and red wine glasses have their different shapes to enhance the wine’s bouquet and taste.

You should always hold a wine glass by the stem, to avoid the body heat of one’s hand from raising the temperature of the wine.  Also, holding the glass by the stem creates a distinctive sound when the glasses are touched for a toast.  When you pour a glass of wine into a wine glass, the most important thing you should know is the amount of wine you pour should be half or less of the glass’s capacity.

If you are spending your money on a bottle of nice wine, don’t skimp on the cost of the glasses you will be pouring the wine into. Your guests will thank you.
