Wood Water Heaters
If you’re thinking of installing a wood heater or stove into your house, you might also want to consider setting up a wood hot water heater as well. Usually, you can use the wood stove as a hot water heater too, by using the heat from the wood stove to heat up the water storage tank.
This is not a new concept by any means. I remember when I was a young child, many years ago, my parents had this exact same heating system. Wood was plentiful where I came from, I actually grew up in a logging district, and most of the houses had wood stoves. Our old combustion stove was situated right next to our huge water tank. As long as we didn’t let the fire go out in the combustion stove, we had hot water which was channeled to the kitchen and the bathroom.
Of course, I still remember my mother’s frosty look, which matched the frosty cold water when one of us kids forgot to stoke the fire and add firewood before bed! If you have plenty of wood available, the wood hot water heater can be a real saving over using electricity to heat your water.
